Leveraging from Racism: A Dual Structural Advantages Perspective

Drawing on the autobiography of an immigrant Black African female scholar, we introduce and conceptualize notion dual structural advantages that racism potentially affords elite White male academics. These hegemonic scholars enjoy two types possible advantage. First, as gatekeepers to a racist academic system, powerful protect their interests by epistemically excluding ‘Other’ from knowledge production. Second, these agents ironically utilize hermeneutical resource for ‘impactful’ research output, grounded in progressive, anti-racist theorizations collaboration with scholars. Such work is disseminated perpetuated through outlets, thus substantially leveraging agents’ careers university rankings. Foregrounding double debates racial equality accentuates necessity changing agential practices order transform institutions.
